Ca' Matta: the revival of a hidden vineyard on the Maser hills

In the Colli Asolani area, specifically in the hilly hamlet of Marano in the municipality of Maser, the Ca' Matta agricultural project was born from the initiative and agreement of two friends, an agronomist and an oenologist, respectively. The initial impulse came from the shared desire to revive and give value to an old family vineyard that had been neglected over the years. The name of the winery itself pays homage to the old farmhouse located within the property, the place where this idea of sharing and work took shape. Far from the dynamics of mass industrial production, this reality focuses on the accurate management of a vineyard where the vine grows in a circumscribed context, allowing the evolution of each single plant to be closely monitored. The terroir of Marano di Maser: hilly soils and microclimate

The particularity of Ca' Matta wines is linked to the geomorphological conformation of their plot located among the hills of Maser. The land, set in a natural basin that benefits from excellent sun exposure and protection from colder winds, is characterized by a deep marly-clay matrix with a strong limestone component. This soil structure directly influences the development of Glera and local varieties, favoring a natural regulation of the plants and imparting a marked acidity and a clear savory imprint to the grapes. Every phase of work in the vineyard, from winter pruning to the selection of grapes during harvest, is performed manually by the founders. This approach allows them to adapt to the climatic variations of different vintages without forcing, harvesting the fruits only at the perfect degree of ripeness.

The choice of organic: respect for the soil and wine stability

The recovery of the vineyard was based from the outset on the principles of certified organic farming. For Ca' Matta, eliminating the use of chemical herbicides, pesticides, and synthetic fertilizers was the fundamental condition for reactivating soil life and respecting the environmental balance of the hill. Under-row management and spontaneous grassing are used to promote plant biodiversity capable of protecting and nourishing the earth naturally. In the cellar, technical choices follow the same line of minimal intervention on the raw material: fermentations are managed to preserve the original aromatic characteristics of the grapes, minimizing invasive technological interventions to ensure maximum cleanliness, stability, and digestibility of the wine.

The enhancement of Asolo Prosecco Superiore and red blends

The company's production is focused on enhancing local grape varieties, starting from Glera intended for the production of Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG. Ca' Matta wines are distinguished by a tense, fresh, and vertical profile, where the typical structure of the Maser hills combines with a clear savoriness, with particular attention to drier versions and refermented wines. Alongside organic sparkling wines, the winery expresses local customs through the production of typical red blends of the area, always maintaining a frank, clean, and free of artificial sophistication stylistic profile.
