Manzoni Bianco

Collection: Manzoni Bianco Alto Adige Organic

Manzoni Bianco is one of Italy's rarest and most fascinating grape varieties, the result of a deliberate cross-breeding carried out in the 1930s by Luigi Manzoni, a professor at the Conegliano Veneto School of Enology. Manzoni crossed Riesling Renano with Pinot Bianco, seeking to create a grape that combined the aromatic finesse of Riesling with the structure of Pinot Bianco. The result was Manzoni Bianco 6.0.13 — the number indicates the clonal selection — a grape that remained almost unknown for decades, cultivated only in a few vineyards in Veneto and Friuli.

Its rediscovery in Alto Adige is relatively recent: some visionary producers in the Isarco Valley and Venosta Valley began experimenting with this grape in the 2000s, discovering that the alpine microclimate extraordinarily enhanced its aromatic characteristics.

Curiosity: Manzoni Bianco is so rare that there isn't a DOC dedicated exclusively to this grape in Alto Adige — it is often vinified as IGT, which paradoxically makes it freer and more interesting from an expressive point of view. It is one of those wines that enthusiasts actively seek out precisely because it is difficult to find.

In its organic version, Alto Adige Manzoni Bianco is a wine of great personality: straw yellow color with greenish reflections, aromas of white peach, apricot, linden blossoms, acacia honey, and a mineral note reminiscent of Riesling. On the palate, it is fresh, savory, with a structure that surprises with its complexity. Pairings: asparagus risotto, mountain trout, fresh goat cheese, salmon carpaccio, elaborate vegetarian cuisine.
