Collection: Barbera d'Alba Organic
Barbera d'Alba hails from the Langhe, the same region as organic Barolo and Barbaresco, on clay-limestone soils that impart structure and minerality. An ancient grape variety — the first documented mentions date back to 1249 in notary deeds from Monferrato — Barbera was for centuries the everyday wine of Piedmontese farmers, before more visionary producers in the 1980s and 90s discovered its potential for aging in wood, transforming it into a collectible wine.
Fun fact: Barbera is the most cultivated red grape variety in Piedmont, even ahead of organic Nebbiolo d'Alba. Its naturally high acidity — once considered a flaw — is now its strong point: it makes it long-lived, fresh, and perfect for accompanying the rich dishes of Piedmontese cuisine.
In its organic version, Barbera d'Alba expresses the character of the Langhe unfiltered: aromas of cherry, blackberry, and ripe plum, with floral notes of violet and a long, persistent finish. Ideal pairings: tajarin with ragù, brasato al Barolo, aged cheeses like Castelmagno DOP. It is part of our selection of organic Piedmontese wines and organic red wines.
