Catarratto Siciliano Biologico

Collection: Organic Sicilian Catarratto

Catarratto is the most widely planted white grape variety in Sicily—yet it remains little known outside the island. It has a dual nature: it can produce a fresh, saline, Mediterranean white when drunk young, or—if left to ripen late on the vine and aged for an extended period—complex, amber-hued wines of rare depth.

Both labels come from Bosco Falconeria, a Sicilian organic and biodynamic winery. Two radically different expressions of the same grape variety.

The Catarratto Alcamo DOC BIO 2023 is the fresh, everyday version: hand-harvested in mid-September, spontaneously fermented in steel, and aged for 9 months between steel and bottle. Intense straw-yellow color, citrus, sage, and a slightly bitter finish typical of the grape variety. Perfect with aperitifs, fresh cheeses, and fish-based first courses, served at 12–14°C.

The Assiolo — Catarratto Vendemmia Tardiva IGT BIO 2019 is its opposite: harvested in the second half of October, skin-fermented, and aged for 18 months in chestnut tonneau barrels. Dark amber color, quince, walnut, candied orange, almond, and soft spices. A contemplative wine in a 0.50 l format—pair it with aged Sicilian pecorino, dried fruit, almond biscuits, or cannoli.
