Collection: Red IGT Colli del Limbara Organic
The Limbara Hills are one of Sardinia's most fascinating and least known wine regions: a granite massif in the north of the island, in the province of Sassari, rising to 1,362 meters above sea level. Here, viticulture is practiced in extreme conditions—constant winds, marked temperature fluctuations, poor and well-draining granitic soils—which produce wines of great personality, with an unexpected minerality and freshness for a Mediterranean island.
The winemaking history of Limbara is ancient: the Nuragic people cultivated vines in this area as early as the second millennium BC, as evidenced by the discovery of carbonized grape seeds in archaeological sites in the area. In subsequent centuries, the viticultural tradition was maintained by transhumant shepherds who brought their flocks to the slopes of the massif, cultivating small plots of vines for family use.
Curiosity: Limbara is also home to Vermentino di Gallura DOCG, Sardinia's only DOCG—but the red wines produced on its granitic slopes are gaining increasing attention among enthusiasts of territorial and niche wines, thanks to a combination of indigenous Sardinian grape varieties (Cannonau, Cagnulari, Muristellu) found nowhere else in the world.
In its organic version, Rosso IGT Colli del Limbara tells the story of a wild and pristine territory: ruby red with garnet reflections, aromas of Mediterranean scrub—myrtle, mastic, rosemary—with ripe red fruits and a piquant mineral note. On the palate, it is savory, fresh, with present but never harsh tannins. Pairings: roast Sardinian suckling pig, lamb with myrtle, aged Sardinian pecorino cheese, wild boar cured meats.
