The Gattice IGT Toscano Rosato BIO is produced by Terre di Melazzano, an organic farm in the heart of Chianti Classico. The name Gattice — the typical tree found on the banks of Tuscan rivers — speaks of a wine rooted in its territory but conceived for everyday enjoyment. Made from 100% Sangiovese vinified "in bianco" (white wine method), it is a dry and fresh rosé, far from sweet or aromatic rosés: it's a table wine with personality and persistence.

The winemaking process is precise: fermentation "in bianco" for 14 days (without skin maceration), maturation for 6 months in steel, and 1 month of aging in the bottle. The result is a rosé that maintains the intact fragrance of Sangiovese — fruity, floral, with a clean freshness and a dry, persistent finish.

It has a brilliant rosé color with clear, crystalline cherry-red nuances. On the nose, delicate fruity and floral aromas, typical of fermentation. On the palate, it is dry, fresh, with good personality and a persistent finish that is surprising for a rosé.

Who it's for

For those who love dry, fruity rosés and want something with more character than Provençal rosés or coppery Pinot Grigio. Gattice is an organic Tuscan rosé from Sangiovese — fresh, versatile, with a personality that is clearly felt in the glass. It’s the right bottle for summer, for an aperitif, or for an informal dinner with friends.

When to drink it

Immediately, well chilled, within 1-2 years of the vintage to best enjoy its aromatic freshness. It is a wine designed for immediate pleasure — it does not need aging. Ideal at 10–12°C.

Taste Characteristics

A dry and fresh rosé, in which the fruity and floral aromas of Sangiovese — strawberry, cherry, red flowers — express themselves with lightness and cleanliness. The "in bianco" vinification preserves the fragrance without extracting tannins from the skins. The finish is dry and persistent, with a freshness that cleanses the palate and invites another sip.

Why we chose this wine

Because Gattice by Terre di Melazzano demonstrates that Sangiovese can produce high-quality rosés — dry, fruity, with recognizable personality and terroir. It is consistent with our selection: organic, Tuscan Sangiovese, respectful winemaking. We offer it as a quality alternative to anonymous rosés and as a natural complement to Terre di Melazzano's two Chianti Classico wines.

FAQ

What dishes does Gattice Rosato pair with?
Seafood appetizers, cold pasta, summer salads, grilled fish, light white meats, fresh cheeses. Its freshness also makes it perfect as an aperitif or for a summer picnic.

Why is it vinified "in bianco"?
"In bianco" vinification means that the must ferments without contact with the skins. This preserves the aromatic fragrance and freshness of the wine, avoiding the extraction of tannins that would make the rosé more structured but less immediate.

Is Gattice sweet or dry?
Completely dry. It has no residual sugar — it is a table rosé, not a dessert wine. The fruity freshness might give an impression of sweetness on the nose, but on the palate, it is dry and clean.

Is it a certified organic wine?
Yes. Terre di Melazzano is a certified organic farm in Chianti Classico. No synthetic pesticides are used in the vineyard.
