The Gewürztraminer Dreiegg originates from Brunnenhof, Kurt Rottensteiner's organic farm in Mazon, in the heart of South Tyrol. The name Dreiegg — "three corners" in German — refers to the specific parcel from which the grapes come: a triangular vineyard on volcanic porphyry soils, where Gewürztraminer expresses its most complex and territorial version.
The winemaking process is hybrid and precise: destemmed grapes rest on their skins for 20 hours before gentle pressing. One-third of the must ferments in 500-liter oak barrels with subsequent malolactic fermentation, while the rest ferments at a controlled temperature in steel tanks and remains on the fine lees for six months. The combination of the two parts gives both structure and freshness — a Gewürztraminer that is neither solely fruity nor solely mineral.
The nose reveals rose, lychee, oriental spices, and a smoky note typical of the grape variety in South Tyrol. The palate is enveloping and aromatic, with a freshness that balances the varietal richness. The finish is long and persistent.

Who is this recommended for?
For those who love aromatic white wines with character and want to discover Gewürztraminer in its most complex version — not a sweet, perfumed aperitif wine, but a gastronomic white with structure and depth. It's the right bottle for those who already know the grape variety and want to find a high-quality artisanal interpretation of it.
When to drink it
It is already enjoyable today, but it has all the characteristics to evolve beautifully over the next 3-5 years if stored correctly. The oak component and malolactic fermentation give it sufficient structure for aging.
Taste characteristics
A complex and balanced Gewürztraminer, where the aromatic richness of the grape — rose, lychee, spices — integrates with the volcanic minerality of the Dreiegg and the structure from oak fermentation. It's not tiring, not cloyingly sweet. The finish is long and invites another sip.
Why we chose this wine
Because Brunnenhof's Gewürztraminer Dreiegg is one of the best examples of how this grape variety can express itself in South Tyrol when treated with artisanal rigor. The hybrid winemaking — part in oak, part in steel — is a courageous choice that adds complexity without sacrificing freshness. We propose it because it is consistent with our selection: organic, identified parcel, precise technique.
FAQ
What dishes does Gewürztraminer Dreiegg pair with?
Spicy Asian cuisine (Thai, Indian), blue cheeses, foie gras, fish in aromatic sauce, white meats with spices. Also excellent as a meditation wine.
Why does part of the wine ferment in oak?
Fermentation in 500-liter oak barrels with malolactic adds structure, roundness, and complexity to the wine. The steel part preserves the aromatic freshness of the grape variety. The combination of the two parts yields a more complete Gewürztraminer than would be achieved with only one technique.
Is it a sweet wine?
No, it is dry. Gewürztraminer is naturally aromatic and may seem sweet on the nose, but on the palate, it is a dry wine with a noticeable freshness. The alcohol content of 14.5% confirms the complete fermentation of sugars.
Is it a certified organic wine?
Yes. Brunnenhof is a certified organic farm in South Tyrol. Kurt Rottensteiner works without synthetic pesticides on volcanic porphyry soils.
