Review your cart →The Pinot Nero Riserva Mazon Sudtirol Alto Adige DOC BIO 2021 is Brunnenhof's flagship wine, a biodynamic farm owned by Kurt Rottensteiner in Mazon. Situated at 400–500 metres above sea level on volcanic porphyritic soils with significant temperature fluctuations, this plateau is one of Italy's finest areas for Pinot Nero: conditions similar to Burgundy, with an unmistakable Alpine character. The winemaking is meticulous: hand-harvesting and selection, two weeks of fermentation in wooden vats with regular punch-downs, malolactic fermentation, one year in 500-litre oak barrels, and then 8–10 months in large oak casks. It is aged in the bottle for one year before release. Artisanal patience you can taste.
In the glass, it presents a clear ruby-red colour with garnet highlights. The nose offers cherry, raspberry, sweet spices and a typical earthy, mineral note from Mazon. On the palate, it is elegant and silky, with fine tannins and a surprising Alpine freshness given its structure. The finish is exceptionally long and persistent, with complexity that develops in the glass.
Recommended for: Those who love quality Pinot Nero and want to discover what this grape can achieve on the volcanic soils of Mazon, in the organic Alto Adige—still little known compared to Burgundy, but with extraordinary potential. The perfect bottle for a special occasion, to pair with game, pigeon, duck or aged hard cheeses. Decant for at least 45 minutes and serve at 14–16°C.
