We are used to carefully reading the ingredients of what we eat, but when it comes to wine, the label is silent. By law, companies are not obliged to declare the substances used during production. The result? Many consumers are unaware that behind an inexpensive glass, dozens of chemical additives and pesticides can be hidden. The conventional vineyard: herbicides and systemic chemistry
In the non-organic industrial model, the land is treated like a factory. To maximize yield and eliminate labor costs, **pesticides, chemical pesticides, and systemic herbicides** (such as glyphosate) are used extensively. These substances penetrate the plant's sap and reach the grape cluster.
In addition to drastically depleting the soil and killing beneficial insects, the residues of these chemical treatments inevitably end up in the bottle you buy at the supermarket. In organic and natural wine, however, systemic chemistry is prohibited: the land is worked by hand, and the vines are protected only with natural contact substances, such as copper and sulfur in minimal doses.

The "tricks" of the industrial winery
The real chemical laboratory, however, is activated in the cellar. If the grapes harvested by machines are of low quality, unripe, or partially spoiled, the industry corrects the liquid using an arsenal of chemical aids. Artificial enzymes are added to extract more color, tartaric acid to correct freshness, and gum arabic to give a false sensation of softness in the mouth.
The wine is then literally "stripped" through aggressive micro-filtrations that eliminate every living particle (but also every real flavor), and finally bombarded with sulfur dioxide to ensure it can last for years on supermarket shelves without altering. This combination of chemicals and high sulfites is primarily responsible for the classic sensation of stomach acid and headaches.
The clean techniques of real organic wine
How does a small artisan producer make excellent wine without using chemicals? Simple: by working better in the vineyard. By producing less grape per plant, the clusters grow strong, healthy, and rich in natural defenses.
In the cellar, the art of waiting and cleanliness is practiced. Fermentation occurs spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts already found on the grape skins.
